Polarized or Death

Yes, every single pair of our wooden sunglasses are polarized - we are #polarizedordeath!

Check out our other FAQs to see the benefits of Polarized sunglasses.

Polarized sunglasses are specialized eyewear designed to reduce glare from surfaces such as water, snow, and glass. Glare distorts the true color of objects and makes them harder to distinguish. The main difference is that polarized lenses are designed specifically to block the glare from reflected light while non-polarized lenses only block intense light.

There are three ways to check if your sunglasses are Polarized:

1. Use your computer TV screen

Hold your sunglasses upright front of the screen, then rotate them 60 degrees. If the sunglasses are Polarized, the screen will appear to turn black due to the anti-glare properties of the screen and sunglasses cancelling each other out.

2. Comparing two pairs of sunglasses

If you have another pair of sunglasses which you know are Polarized, hold your new pair of sunglasses about 2cm to 5m behind the lenses and rotate them 60 degrees. If the sunglasses are Polarized, the new pair will appear darker as you rotate them.

3. Testing on a reflective surface

Find a reflective surface, such as a mirror, which produces a glare when light is shone on to it (hint: you can produce a glare by shining a torch on to the mirror). Hold your sunglasses about 20 cm in front of your eyes, and rotate them around 60 degrees. If the lenses are Polarized, you should notice that the glare diminishes or disappears altogether.

Note that the angle you rotate your sunnies at to remove the glare may change depending on the specifics of the test you are performing.

All of our sunglasses are UV 400 protected, which blocks all light rays with wavelengths up to 400 nanometers. (This covers all of UVA and UVB rays.)
